Social Alchemy Explains… Blogs

with 2 comments

Each week I’ll be explaining a term or an area of social media. If there’s anything you’d like me to feature, feel free to drop me an e-mail to michaela@fuelledbysocialalchemy.com.

Blog: “a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries”(taken from Wikipedia)

Ok… tell me more!
Where to start?  Blogs are not a new online phenomenom.  They started in the ’90s and have progressed with the internet boom of the ’00s.  What started as forums and virtual message boards; turned into online diary journals and of course, blogs.  The idea of a blog is writing/editing frequent content online for others to read.  Nice and simple.

What’s the advantage of a blog?
In most instances, particularly if you use a hosted provider (in other words, you don’t need your own domain), they’re free!  They designed for anyone without any technical knowledge, so are easy-to-use.  They’re a brilliant platform for both personal thoughts and business promotion alike and often have increased SEO.  Additionally, they’re an ideal way to start conversations with your readers, as all blogs have built-in comment facilities.

In the next few weeks I’ll be offering tips ‘n’ tricks on how to run a blog – so, keep an eye out!
